HISTORY
Established in
1951, Gate of Heaven Church was actually an offshoot of St.
Therese’s parish in Shavertown. As the population in the Back
Mountain continued to grow, so did the need for an additional
Catholic church as well as a Catholic school. As a result, 1951
also marked the beginning of Catholic Education in the Back
Mountain when the parish officially opened Gate of Heaven
Elementary School. |

Our Lady of Victory, which once served as a mission church for
Gate of Heaven, became an independent parish in 1969 to
accommodate the growing number of Catholics who were moving into
Harveys Lake.
Today, with more than 32-thousand people living in the Back
Mountain, Gate of Heaven and Our Lady of Victory continue to meet the spiritual
needs of an ever growing and diverse community of Catholics. |
